Old Bailey bombing

The 1973 Old Bailey bombing was a Provisional IRA terrorist attack that occurred on 8 March 1973 when the IRA carried out a car bombing outside of the Old Bailey courthouse in London, England. The Old Bailey bombing was just one of the bomb attacks in London that day; other car bombs targeted the Ministry of Agriculture, the Whitehall army recruitment office, and New Scotland Yard. The Scotland Yard bomb was discovered and defused, but the Ministry of Agriculture and Old Bailey bombings succeeded, wounding 200 people; one elderly man died of a heart attack attributed to the bombings. All 11 perpetrators were captured while attempting to leave the country, and they were sentenced to long prison terms.
