The 1944 Bavarian chateau raid (7 August 1944) was a special mission undertaken by US Army Captain Steve Foley's small paratrooper unit that involved rescuing captured British officers from a German chateau along the Bavarian Alps. The Americans stole a German truck and drove it to an area near the chateau, and they launched an all-out assault on the complex, killing dozens of German troops inside of the elegant mansion. The Americans were able to fight their way to Captain Humphrey Price and free him from his cell, and they escaped to the captured truck. Price informed them that the other British officer, Gerald Ingram, had been moved to another camp, and they would rescue him in the Strasshof raid.
