The 1901 Carson City Saloon Shootout was a gunfight that occured in Carson City, Nevada on January 29th, 1901 in the dying days of the Wild West era. The shootout involved famous gunfighter John Bernard Books, outlaw Mike Sweeney, local criminal Jay Cobb, and gambler Jack Pulford.

In late January of 1901, John Bernard Books, who was dying of cancer, orchestrated a shootout in the local saloon in Carson City, Nevada with three individuals, local criminal, Jay Cobb, who tried to fight Books when he first entered town, gambler Jack Pulford whose skill with a six gun impressed Books after he heard about it, and former adversary Mike Sweeny, whose brother Albert was killed by Books. Books engineered this gunfight in order to not die a painful and agonizing death from cancer. The fight occurred on Book's 58th birthday.

All three of the participants were killed in the shootout, with Sweeny, Cobb, and Pulford were killed by Books, who was killed by the bartender Frank Neil, who was killed by Gillom Rogers, avenging Books.
