1875 Lewiston bank robbery

The 23 January 1875 edition of The New York News, reporting on the robbery

The 1875 Lewiston bank robbery occurred on 23 January 1875 in Lewiston, Maine when the Groener-Rivers Gang robbed the Bank of Lewiston of $3,000. The gang, led by Stephen Groener, wore masks during the robbery of the bank, and they were unable to be identified for days. Police later discovered their identities from a paid informant in the gang, and Groener, Thomas Rivers, and three other criminals were killed in a shootout at a local tavern.
