1793 was the 1,793rd year of the Common Era and the second year of the 1790s. It saw the the second election of President of the United States since the adoption of the US Constitution in 1789 and was an important year in the French Revolutionary War, the first full year of conflict.

- Execution of King Louis XVI of France and Queen Marie Antoinette of France during the French Revolution.
- George Washington is reelected as President of the United States for a second term, ending in 1797.
- During the French Revolutionary Wars, France declares war on the Kingdom of Spain. They are defeated at the Battle of Neerwinden and Charles Dumouriez defects to the Austrian Empire, but later that year, Napoleon Bonaparte takes part in the siege of Toulon and pushes Spanish, British, and Royalist forces out of the port in a major victory for him.
- The Committee of Public Safety under Georges Danton is formed in the French Republic, and is dominated by Jacobin Club radicals led by Maximilien Robespierre, among others. The Girondists are massacred and the radicals seize control over France.
- Assassinations of French politician Louis-Michel le Peletier, pamphleteer Jean-Paul Marat, and former royal treasurer Aloys La Touche in Paris.
- Start of the Reign of Terror in France on 5 September. The same day, the Louvre Palace becomes the Louvre Museum.
- British invasion of Saint-Domingue to stop Toussaint l'Ouverture's rebellion, ending in 1798 in defeat.
- Yellow fever outbreak in Philadelphia.
