The 13th arrondissement is one of the 20 districts of Paris, situated on the left bank of the Seine. During the late 1970s and early 1980s, Vietnamese refugees from the Vietnam War settled in the area, followed by Chinese immigrants from Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. As a result, Teochew, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Lao, and Khmer are spoken by many residents in the community, which is home to several Asian businesses. In 2019, the 19th had a population of 180,005 people, and the neighborhood was a bastion of the Socialist Party into the 21st century.
