State of Georgia 3

The 12th Georgia Infantry was a Confederate States Army regiment which was active from June 1861 to 9 April 1865 during the American Civil War. It was formed at Richmond, Virginia by Edward Johnson, and its men were raised from Sumter, Jones, Macon, Calhoun, Muscogee, Dooly, Putnam, Bibb, Lowndes, and Marion Counties, Georgia. It first fought at the Battle of Camp Allegheny in December 1861 and was attached to the Army of Northern Virginia after fighting in the 1862 Valley Campaign, with five officers and 60 men surviving to surrender at Appomattox on 9 April 1865.
