
Íñigo López de Mendoza y Zúñiga (1476-9 June 1535) was a Spanish cardinal of the Catholic Church and a diplomat in the service of Emperor Charles V.
Biography[]
Íñigo López de Mendoza y Zúñiga was born in Aranda de Duero, Castile in 1476, and he was appointed ambassador to England in 1526. In 1528, he was imprisoned due to a deterioration in relations between King Henry VIII of England and Emperor Charles V, and he was replaced by Eustace Chapuys after being recalled. He became a Catholic priest in 1528, and he was elevated to cardinal in 1530. Mendoza became Archbishop of Burgos and Bishop of Coria, and he died in 1535.
